Confession is good for the soul For helping a heart with a hole That's why I chose, to send you a rose So that I would finally know If this hole in my heart would grow Enclosed with the rose was a note Upon which I truthfully wrote Don't ask me why, but for you I would die And the hole in my heart it grew This hole in my heart is you So long have I tried, to let sorrow slide away Confession is good for the soul For helping a heart with a hole

This Is Now 05:41
Lately it's been easy to remember Those things you find it harder to forget I'm sure these days are bound to come much brighter But nothing much is happening just yet Then you saw someone you thought was gone, got you thinking 'how?' Ah but all that was then and this is now Today you talked to no one very special And watched a world you couldn't really see Spent time on things you never can remember You don't know what you want or wanna be Then you saw someone you thought was gone, got you thinking 'how?' Ah but all that was then and this is now You're trying to find what's going on tomorrow Discover what the next day will become You're looking back too often to get moving Standing still while others seem to run

You left us staring into space, deep inside a cloud your face Hanging in the Milky Way Brush aside what was done, I thank the stars for all the fun You'd laugh if you heard me say You ebbed and you flowed Like the moon on the tide You waxed and you waned, then you died Pink Moon plays and all is fine, we're coming to terms with time And round your dark side we flew Your many phases they cast a spell, left us howling 'ah bloody hell' We're coming to terms with you You ebbed and you flowed Like the moon on the tide You waxed and you waned, then you died You ebbed and you flowed Like the moon on the tide You waxed and you waned, then you died

Shrub Hill 03:03
Tommy me and Mark made three Getting high on walnut tea, many moons ago Shrub Hill you still, you drive me crazy When will we ever be the same? The Summer shone upon our street The days were long and Mrs Leek, she made you dream Shrub Hill you still, you drive me crazy When will we ever be the same? And in the night we'd fly Beyond the river lies a love, you'll never know again You never really knew it then Staring at a sea of stars Which was North and which was Mars? Long journey home Shrub Hill you still, you drive me crazy When will we ever be the same?

about

"Truly truly beautiful"

"Mooi en wow!"

"Fucking beautiful"

"...so melancholic that you want to pull your own guts out to ease the pain but eh that’s the best kind of song innit"

"Wow what a tune. WHAT. A. TUNE."

"Zoooooo mooi!!"

Four songs recorded pretty spontaneously at my good friends Betty and Neil's house around Spring 2018, in-between delicious meals and lots of mildly drunken banter about songs and songwriting. Neil would get out his baritone guitars (where have you been all my life?) and we were off, Betty on banjo and Neil on electric/slide guitar, often learning the song as we went along, recording every take until it gelled or we said fuck it..
Only one song is new - 'Waxed & Waned' - a song about an old friend and local artist/musician Wes Martin who took his own life in March 2018, an event that shook our world. 'Hole In My Heart' was recorded relatively recently during a flying visit to Lancaster and subsequently later remixed/tweaked/ruined by Neil, I think it's fab. Wes always loved this song, in fact it was the first and last song we played together so it takes pride of place on this home-made EP thingy, in fact Wes is all over this, talk to each other people.
Playing sad, true, melancholy songs with good friends and a few beers, what more do you need? (biscuits) Well for me, some more would be nice. We hope to record again at Betty's Boudoir, until then, enjoy this collection.
