about

The sound of Nigel fulfilling (24 years later) a promise he made to a Norwegian girl on a Slovakian mountainside. A new song that had niggled Nigel’s conscience for twenty-odd years. In 1993 he found himself at a remote Slovakian Folk bash high in the Tatra mountains. Here he drank copious amounts of goulash and ended the night in a hotel room at the invitation of a certain Birgitte. Not one to turn down a pretty young girl, Nigel went up to the room to find it crammed full of extremely drunk Norwegians, extremely keen to get even drunker and sing sing sing. So he joined in and sang sang sang until he was hoarse and eventually crawled away at dawn. As he was leaving Birgitte stopped him and said ‘One day you will write a song about this night!’ He grunted agreement, they swapped addresses and never saw each other again. But the promise stayed.
Fast forward a few years and Nigel unexpectedly found the song on the piano, hidden away in the ether all these years. Great fun to record and play live, this is for Birgitte Jacobsen of Molde, Norway. Tak!

lyrics

Who would remember, that night in September '93?
We sang all evening, and as we were leaving you said to me
Write me a song 'bout what we have done this night
It's taken so long, but I wanted to get it right

The promise I made I'm making it good
The songs that we sang, they course through our blood
But who would recall, who would recall?
A Norwegian would

A Slovakian folk bash, fuelled on goulash and wine
The Nordic party, they partied so hearty and fine
