Northern Skies

from The High Ones by The Low Countries

/

about

I wrote this song for my old band The High Ones in 1997. We recorded it on a reel to reel 8-track in Nick Swannell's front bedroom as part of our 'Northern Skies' EP, - which is out there somewhere - mainly in the bass player's garage.
I don't really play this song any more but it's a big part of my life, I especially like the lyrics to the middle section, as did Jim...

lyrics

Yes it's true, Northern skies are always full of rain
Never blue, that's why I'm searching once again

Searching for the sun (I left behind)
Searching for the sun (that's in my mind)
Searching for the sun, when will it shine?

Pretty soon, I'll know I've had enough of this
Mr Moon, you make me see the things I miss
Summer light, will I feel you rech me, one more time
And the night, you're more than welcome to be mine

Searching for the sun (I left behind)
Searching for the sun (that's in my mind)
Searching for the sun, when will it shine?

Times like this you need a friend
Makes me wish, they'd never end
Maybe then, when we were young
Way back when, we found the sun

Got to see, capture the feeling I thought gone
Is it me? Can I really be the only one?

Searching for the sun (I left behind)
Searching for the sun (that's in my mind)
Searching for the sun, when will it shine?
